A fun little adventure story with time-traveling modern teen meeting pirates, learning to sail, doing some sword-fighting and swashbuckling, and a dash of magic along the way. Fencing scenes were written well; the author did her research on both swords and sailing.
Overall, it's a somewhat predictable story, but the journey was fun and engrossing nonetheless. A couple of infodumps, disguised teaching main character Jill how to sail, and how to fight with live steel. I particularly liked the character of Marjory Cooper. Plus the author has some fun throwing around a few real historical pirates, including Calico Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
Also, I may be superficial but the cover is just gorgeous.
